I spent one week in Yangshuo (Guilin, Guangxi China) and saw some of the most stunning views in the world. It is famous for its fabulous Karst formations and the Li River with the cormorant fishermen. I have tried to capture its beauty in this short film and hope you enjoy it!
Interview Condé Nast Traveler:
Why did you decide to visit China?
I saw the cormorant fishermen photos made by Jesúsm García wich are really inspiring. The location is Yangshuo County, a county under the jurisdiction of Guilin City, in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Region in China. I filmed the traditional fishing method in which fishermen use trained cormorants to fish in rivers and the beautiful rice fields in Longsheng.
When did you visit the country?
We and arrived on September 2th and stayed for one week. It was beautiful sunny weather with temperatures to 35 degrees, one week later there was a typhoon in Hong Kong so we where lucky.
Which areas of the country appear in the video?
We went to Yangshuo in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. This region is best known for its numerous minorities and its fantastic countryside of rocky peaks bordering the Li River, uncountable caves, the Longsheng terrace paddy fields.
Our first stop was Ping’an Village, where we had an extraordinary rice terrace view at nightfall. The next morning we got up early for your shooting the sunrise in the Xianggong Hill, with a climb around 20 min to the top to see one of the most breathtaking sunrise you will ever see. Afther the sunrise we drove to Yangshuo, and head to the Wuzhishan Hill for catching the karst formations sunset.
The day after we did some bamboo rafting on Yulong River. Yulong River is the original location for bamboo rafting and very popular. A ride on a bamboo raft is a very relaxing way of enjoying the scenery here in Yangshuo. Just sit down and take in the views.
In the afternoon, we headed to the Xilang Hill, which is famous as a screen hill. From here, you can see the panoramic view of Yangshou.
The next day we went to the Fuli Bridge and drove on to Xingping to fim the cormorant fishermen with a beautiful sunset on the Li River. Early morning we did another shoot on the Li River of the catching fishes by ospreys and visited the Old Town of Xingping.
Our last stop was in Guangxi with a boat tour to an old fish village.
What did you impress the most about Yangshuo and why?
It is one of the most impressive sightseeing destinations in the world I have seen.
